The first ingredient is sugar (22 grams/serving), and there is plenty of saturated fat as well. Is that really what you want to start your kids' day off with? No thanks, Nutella! Let's keep this as what it is - a dessert item. Instead , try smearing your kids' toast with a healthy nut butter instead.
I can't find the video on youtube.com, but you can watch the commercial here:
Nutella Breakfast Commercial
That is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw that commercial the other day. When I lived in Norway we had Nutella once in a while on bread as an afterschool snack - but mostly we ate whole grain crackers, goat cheese, veggies or fruit.
ReplyDeleteOh me too. I HATE that commercial.
ReplyDeleteOh this one totally gets me. That stuff (while delicious), is absolutely TERRIBLE for you! We've found a nice substitute in Chocolate PB2. Delicious and guilt-free. Check out these stats: http://www.bellplantation.com/nutrition
ReplyDeleteI also thought that was absurd. We enjoy Nutella on graham crackers or bananas as a dessert treat sometimes, but never for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI agree, every time I see the commercial about the healthy nuts, milk , cocoa that go inside . I scream hey what about all the sugar!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhile it is not a health food, if you want a chocolate nut butter, there is one made by "Peanut Butter & Co." that is much healthier than Nutella. Check it out at http://ilovepeanutbutter.com/darkchocolatedreams.html
ReplyDeleteKids and mom both liked it a lot...in fact, mom liked it too much to keep it in the house on a regular basis. :-)
You can get the Peanut Butter & Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams at Wal-Mart.
