Grayson's Lunch

I find 90% of what the school system serves for lunch is processed garbage, so I pack his lunch nearly every day. I also pack his snack...who in the world needs ice cream every day?

So what do I pack him? I give a choice everyday of a healthy sandwich, soup, salad (the varities of these are almost endless), a fruit/veggie, a cracker/chip type thing, string cheese, something sweet (and healthy-ish at least), and a 100% juice box or low-sodium V8.

Today's Lunch:
Turkey and Provolone on a whole wheat sandwich round
Light String Cheese
100 Calorie Peanut Butter Crackers
Baby Carrots
100 Calorie Pretzel Bar
Juicy Juice 100% Juice Orange Tangerine juice box

Now I know that is not a 100% perfect lunch, but I know it is well balanced and far healthier than what the school offers. All food groups are pretty well covered, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I'll try to continue posting different lunches!

  1. I love the rounds, there is so much fiber! I use those for sandwiches every now and then to switch things up. Our Costco carries them too making it cheaper.

  2. When does he eat his snack? Why would he have ice cream if you didn't pack something - that's crazy?

I'm glad we don't have to pack snack. Katie always gets a healthy snack at school - fruit or veggies or crackers. Her lunch is usually leftovers from the night before (meat, veggies, pasta) or sunbutter & jelly (I get the same no sugar added Smuckers kind as you) w/ raw veggies and a fruit or pretzels. I also don't have to pack a drink - they give her milk or water at school. Love it!

  3. Aimee, they sell ice cream every day for 65 cents. If a kid forgets his snack, they are given something from an "emergency" bin of snacks I guess, and Grayson says it is cookies. :S I think they get their snack around 2:00?
