Adventures in food traditions

Collard greens cooked with a ham hock for flavor
As many people do, our family had to eat black eyed peas and collard greens on New Year's Day for good luck. My kids like greens pretty well, but it isn't a favorite. On New Year's, they ate them willingly because that is what we were supposed to do that day.

This got me thinking...maybe coming up with more unusual food traditions would be a good way to get kids to try more new foods in a fun way. Maybe a different food on Valentine's Day or Groundhog Day that is special for your family, something a little non-traditional but healthy. I will look to the next holiday to come up with something fun!

Does your family have any special food traditions?
